What’s in a food parcel?

Our foodbank provides a week's worth of nutritionally balanced, non-perishable food. We also provide hygiene and laundry products if you need them.

When you speak to us, please tell us about your household and your needs. We know some people have limited cooking facilities, special diets and different hygiene needs. We also know that food tastes better with spices or salt and pepper, and that sometimes you really need a bit of chocolate to get you through tough times.

For example, we know that some customers might only have a kettle to cook with – we can still feed you.

In some cases, we can provide specialist help – for example, if you’re in an abusive situation we can provide more than just food. If you have a baby, we can also provide formula milk.

Dietary requirements

Our foodbank can usually adapt your food parcel to meet your dietary needs: for example, we can provide gluten-free, halal or vegetarian foods.

When we call you, a volunteer will chat to you about any special dietary requirements you have.

Hygiene products

At Stretford we can also provide basic hygiene products, including things like:

  • Soap and body wash
  • Shampoo and conditioner
  • Toothpaste and toothbrushes
  • Safety razors
  • Sanitary towels, tampons, etc.
  • Deodorants
  • Nappies

Emergencies

If you’re coping with an emergency we may be able to offer extra support. For example, if you need to move into new accommodation urgently we might be able to help you find furniture and other supplies.

If things are difficult for you, speak to your referral agency (e.g. Citizen’s Advice), or mention it to us on the phone when we call you to arrange your parcel. We are here to support you and point you in the right direction.
